Our Parent Guides will help

while your baby is trying to grow and get well

Our Quillo Isolette Cover helps, allowing peaceful

and quite sleep by reducing stressors in the NICU,

like, bright lights, continuous noises,

people talking, buzzers and alarms,

all are magnified and louder in the isolette (incubator).

And is a nice quillo-blanket comforter after.

Our Cuddle Buns diapers are developmentally

designed providing more comfort

so that your babies hips and legs

stay in alignment better

and there are less problems later.

Our Privacy Breast Feeding Poncho

can be used in the NICU and after, wherever,

to provide comfort and intimacy and privacy

for you and baby, for skin to skin or breast feeding.

And last but not least,

Our Pacee Pacifier comforts and soothes

and removes stress

promoting peaceful and restful sleep.

Developement outside of the womb

needs to take place just as though your baby was still nestled in that safe place.

It is important that all who interact

with your little one are aware of these needs

and are trying to decrease stress

by following these principles.

NICU nurses are trained in developmental issues that help growth and development and decrease stress.

Some of the things your nurse does you

might want to know:

decreasing stress speeds healing

& growth & lessens hospital stay

1.)    Whenever possible maintain fetal positioning (little arms and legs close to a midline curl)

2.)   Always maintain a warmed nuetral thermal environment (decrease cool breezes and cold touch-equipment,scales, hands, etc.)

3.)   Whenever possible protect from harsh

sounds, lights, and touch (cover islolette or

cover eyes & ears, dress. cover or wrap)

4.)   Whenever possible allow skin to skin

touch with parents

(on chest or breast close to heart beat)

5.)   Cluster care, do as much as possible each time you disturb the baby (this allows for

normal sleep patterns, sleep is growth

and healing, even infants can get sleep deprivation)

Dear Parents;

We at Small Beginnings are all clinicians and we understand the difficult and emotional time of mixed

feelings and uncertainty that you are feeling. We express our sincere hope that everything with your

baby turns out fine.  Here are some things that might help you in this very stressful time. Below is a

sample of our parent guide, we wish all NICUs provided it for the  parents of their tiny patients.

This booklet was developed by nurses in Ohio to help them to help you.  We make and sell them at our cost

to make things easier for you and your bedside nurse.  It is our desire to help you understand the best way

to interact with your baby in the most helpful way, and gives you lists of things to do that are the most

appropriate at each stage that your baby goes through.  Ask your nurse to help you learn how and when to use

these suggestions.  We hope this will be helpful to you.  Please scroll down. More helpful suggestions from nurses

and other healthcare professionals, as well as from, parents just like yourselves.
